The demand for contact wires is rising in tandem with the continuous construction and renovation of railways, subways, and light rail transit systems in China, which has led to an increase in the total length of these networks. Meanwhile, achieving higher operating speeds across the board has become an established policy of the Ministry of Railways. Copper-silver contact wires-which offer high tensile strength (breaking load) and electrical conductivity nearly equal to that of pure copper-have emerged as a preferred choice for medium-speed and quasi-high-speed rail applications. It is anticipated that in the near future, the demand for copper-alloy contact wires-specifically copper-silver variants-will surpass that of standard copper contact wires. Large quantities of domestically produced copper-silver contact wires, alongside a significant volume of imported ones, are currently being manufactured, installed, and put into service. This trend creates new opportunities for the development and application of contact wires in China, fostering the creation of new materials, products, processes, and equipment, while also advancing the localization of production.
