Cast Roll Sleeve

A pair of counter-rotating casting rolls form a molten pool between the roll sleeves. Liquid metal is fed into the roll gap. The outer surface of the roll sleeves contacts the high-temperature molten metal, while circulating cooling water inside rapidly removes heat. The molten metal solidifies into a solid shell on the roll surface and undergoes compression and rolling simultaneously at the roll gap. Solidification and rolling are completed in one step, directly producing crystalline metal strip blanks (typical thickness of aluminum cast strip blanks: 6–10 mm).
